I. Examples

This structure is employed with a noun representing the content of an action, indicating that the subject is actively engaged in carrying out that action. Its English equivalents include ‘in the process/middle of’ or ‘currently doing’. Following a noun, 중 is appended, whereas after a verb, -는 중 is attached to the verb stem.

A. Stem Ending in Vowel or ㄹ –> -면서

• 가다 + -면서 –> 가면서
• 보다 + -면서 –> 보면서
• 기다리다 + -면서 –> 기다리면서
• 방문하다 + -면서 –> 방문하면서

B. Stem Ending in Vowel or ㄹ –> -으면서

• 읽다 + -으면서 –> 읽으면서
• 먹다 + -으면서 –> 먹으면서

C. Irregular Forms
