II. Grammar Point

1. 에서 = Location / 부터 = Times

“M에서 N까지” and “M부터 N까지” can be translated as “from M to N” or “from M to until N” in English. The former is employed for indicating a physical location, while the latter is used to express a range of time. However, it’s important to note that there is no significant difference in usage between the two.

A. M에서 N까지 (Range of Locations)

집에서 학교까지 걸어서 20분 걸려요.
(It takes 20 minutes to walk from home to school.)

한국에서 일본까지 배로 갈 수 있어요.
(You can go from Korea to Japan by boat.)

여기에서 저기까지 몇 미터입니까?
= 여기부터 저기까지 몇 미터입니까?
(How many meters is it from here to there?)

B. M부터 N까지 (Range of Times)

점심시간은 오후 12시반부터 1시반까지 입니다.
(Lunchtime is from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.)

월요일부터 금요일까지 회사에 가요.
(I go to work from Monday to Friday.)

12월부터 1월까지 겨울방학이에요.
= 12월에서 1월까지 겨울방학이에요.
(It is winter vacation from December to January.)
